7. Dhaulagiri Base Camp Trek (Nepal)

Trek Overview

Dhaulagiri I, the “White Mountain,” is the world’s seventh‑highest  peak. This demanding circuit trek encircles the Dhaulagiri massif,  crosses French Pass, and ventures into the rugged Hidden Valley. The  route climbs from subtropical lowlands into remote alpine wilderness,  offering striking views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and other major  Himalayan peaks. With glacier travel, full wilderness camping, and long  days in true solitude, this expedition‑style journey is ideal for  experienced trekkers seeking a remote, high‑altitude adventure.

  • Summit elevation: 8,167 m
  • Base camp altitude: 4,750 m 
  • Highest trekking point: French Pass (5,360 m) 
  • Duration: 16-20 days 
  • Difficulty rating: Hard 
  • Best time to go: April-May and September-October 
  • Starting point: Beni, Nepal 
  • Total trekking distance (return): Approx. 160-200 km

Example 16-Day Itinerary (start/end Kathmandu, Nepal)

  • Day 1: Drive/fly to Kathmandu (1,400 m) to Pokhara (1,000 m).
  • Day 2: Drive from Pokhara to Beni, trek to Babichaur (1,000 m). 
  • Day 3: Babichaur to Dharapani (1,560 m). 
  • Day 4: Dharapani to Muri (1,850 m). 
  • Day 5: Muri to Boghara (2,080 m). 
  • Day 6: Trek from Boghara to Dobang (2,520 m). 
  • Day 7: Dobang to Sallaghari (3,110 m). 
  • Day 8: Sallaghari to Italian Base Camp (3,660 m)
  • Day 9: Acclimatizing day - Italian Base Camp.
  • Day 10: Italian Base Camp to Glacier Camp (4,200 m). 
  • Day 11: Glacier Camp to Dhaulagiri Base Camp (4,750 m). 
  • Day 12: Dhaulagiri BC to French Pass (5,360 m) to Hidden Valley (5,000 m). 
  • Day 13: Hidden Valley to Dhampus Pass (5,244 m) to Yak Kharka (3,680 m). 
  • Day 14: Yak Kharka to Marpha (2,670 m). 
  • Day 15: Marpha to Jomsom (2,720 m) and then fly back to Pokhara (1,000 m).
  • Day 16: Fly back to Kathmandu (1,400 m).
